Program Overview

The Power of Local Policy

After spending the summer thinking globally, the students return to Philadelphia to act locally and consider how change happens at the municipal level in a course that focuses on current policy issues facing the City of Philadelphia.  Former Scholars who are Philadelphia-based, and other Philadelphia policy leaders, help us craft the research agenda for the class. The Scholars work in collaborative teams to study these issues and present novel suggestions for reform. They write a white paper, legislation, a factsheet, advocacy letters, written testimony, op-eds and blog posts, and do a final panel presentation. The LPP Program has also hosted local governance panels on pressing Philadelphia policy concerns, moderated by LPP Scholars.
