A Night Owl Takes Flight – An Evening Student’s Open House Experience

The Temple Law Admitted Students Open House is a must if you are still on the fence about where to go to law school. Before the Open House I already had an idea about what Temple Law had to offer and if it would be a good fit for me; but attending the Open House sealed the deal. The experience made me feel like I was already a student here.

The day was packed with different events to give you a perspective of the many offerings here at Temple Law. Before breaking out to mock classes, Dean Mandel gave a welcome speech, highlighting how Temple Law values diversity of professional and personal backgrounds. The breakout classes were a great way to get to know some of the professors here at Temple Law and get a feel of how a law school class is structured. One of my favorite part of the day was the presentations on areas of study, I attended the Business and Transactional Law session, and the Tax Law session offered by Professor Abreu. This was a great opportunity to discover that Temple Law offered more than I expected in my areas of interest; and even learn about other areas of Law that I was not as familiar with, like Public Interest, Intellectual Property, and International Law.

At noon we had the opportunity to breakout in sessions for lunch with current students, including a group of current evening students. As an incoming evening student my biggest worry was how would I be able to balance law school and work. During this lunch we were able to hear firsthand how current students manage their workload, schedule, assignments and even their personal life. This session was completely open and honest, we were able to ask any questions, and hear the good, the bad and the fun of being an evening law student. This was to me the first time where the fears started to diminish, in exchange of feeling confident that I could do this.

By the end of the day I could tell Temple Law was not only a great school in what they offer to students, but also in the way they care about their students. I left very confident that Temple Law was the right school for me, and as I’m halfway done with my first year as an evening student, the feeling remains. All admitted students should take advantage of the Open House and everything it has to offer, you will meet some of your future classmates and professors and most importantly, you will see yourself as a Temple Law Owl!
