As I approached the end of my internship with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), my excitement and awe had not dissipated in the least.
While many of my friends and family see the fact that I worked in the building where Veep is filmed as the most impressive aspect of my internship, that was only a secondary benefit. The internship exposed me to many exciting policy questions and initiatives. From eliminating Ebola to addressing climate change, to using technology to improve government services, OSTP consists of the brightest minds solving the most challenging problems and realizing the most thrilling possibilities.
Lawyers play many roles at OSTP. Some are leaders in addressing the challenges identified above. Others make up a “small firm” within OSTP. The attorneys I worked with play a central role in advancing the policy goals of OSTP and serving the public by ensuring open government. As an intern with OSTP, I had the opportunity to work closely with senior government attorneys on a range of matters. Some of these topics included employment agreements, information disclosure, litigation, ethics, and legislation. I was able to research emerging legal issues related to technology, explore the vast landscape of ethics law regulations and guidance, and assist in the processing of requests under the Freedom of Information Act. In between these challenging legal responsibilities, I had the opportunity to help out with fun, yet important, events like the White House Science Fair.
While many of my friends and family see the fact that I worked in the building where Veep is filmed as the most impressive aspect of my internship, that was only a secondary benefit.
Temple Law prepared me to jump into many of these matters on day one of my internship. The grit of Temple’s students, the impressive real-world experience of Temple’s professors, and the many practical, skills-based course offerings equipped me to be a contributing member of the team from the beginning.

During my tenure at Temple Law, I learned that professors will be your champions in realizing your academic and professional goals. Beyond preparing me academically for my internships, Temple’s professors have pushed me to consider opportunities outside my play-it-safe comfort zone, counseled me when confronting difficult career decisions, and provided individualized advice.
Thanks to the academic and professional training, and unmatchable support from Temple Law, I was prepared for many exciting internships, including my unforgettable time at the Office of Science and Technology Policy.
