Living in the shadows: Why stateless people fear Trump’s immigration crackdown


Laura Bingham is the inaugural Executive Director of the Temple Institute on Law, Innovation, and Technology. She served as a member of the legal team that brought the Katiba Institute case before the High Court.

Stateless people in the US cannot obtain passports, birth certificates or other essential identification documents and have no direct path to gain US citizenship. Prof. Laura Bingham tells NPR “There’s no protection. You’re effectively the most vulnerable undocumented person …. it just forces people underground.”
