Jack Despain Zhou

Jack Despain Zhou LAW ’26 is a Law & Public Policy Scholar and a Beasley Scholar at Temple University Beasley School of Law. Prior to law school, he spent six years in the Air Force as a Chinese Airborne Cryptologic Language Analyst, receiving an Associate in Chinese at Defense Language Institute in 2018, then finishing a Bachelor’s in Computer Science at Western Governors University in 2023 shortly after his separation from the Air Force. Jack worked as an intern at a Seattle public defender’s office in summer 2023 and has spent the past several years working as a podcast producer and independent writer. His policy interests and past writing are broad-ranging but include a focus on excellence and productive structure in education, the role and efficacy of admissions tests and the wrestling over them, and the policy implications of the Republican Party collapse among young, educated professionals.

During the summer of 2024, he will work as a law clerk at Hamilton Lincoln Law Institute, a nonprofit public interest firm focused on free markets, free speech, and fighting regulatory abuse and rent-seeking, in addition to conducting an investigation into recent conflicts within the Effective Altruism community.
