Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers (LCL) is hosting Open Student Hours on the following days this semester:

On these days, you can contact LCL’s Executive Director, Laurie Besden, for a confidential 30-minute session. All you have to do is email Laurie at laurie@lclpa.org and request a zoom meeting and Laurie will send you a unique link for your session only.  LCL offers not only incredible resources but an ear to help students navigate disclosure issues, stress, anxiety, imposter syndrome, and substance use/mental health challenges. These sessions are confidential, and the school is NOT involved in any respect. LCL remains available 24/7/365 to you, even while you are on winter break.

Mac Users: Update Regarding macOS Ventura

As a follow-up to their previous advisory, Information Technology Services has advised that Mac users can now safely upgrade their computer to macOS Ventura. If you use specialized software, however, first check with the manufacturer to ensure there are no compatibility issues before upgrading.

Symposium on Race and Tax – February 24

The Federal Income Tax: Racially Blind But Not Racially Neutral Symposium will be held on February 24, 2023 in Washington, DC and online. The Program is free and open to the public. WRITING COMPETITIONS, CONTESTS, SCHOLARSHIPS AND TOURNAMENTS

Legal Tech Competition at Brooklyn Law School – Deadline EXTENDED

Law students are invited to participate in the upcoming 10th Annual Stanley M. Grossman Innovators Invitational at CUBE to help launch legal tech ventures.

New York State and New York metropolitan area (NY, NJ, CT and PA) law school students are invited to develop and pitch a novel, legal tech business concept before a panel of industry professionals. Our hope is that all finalists will walk away with prizes ranging from $2,000 to $9,000, out of a prize purse of $15,000.

Competitors will need to provide a brief description of the venture and 3-5 minute video explaining their legal tech idea. Temple University Innovation & Entrepreneurship Institute Changemaker Challenge – Submissions Due February 1st

The need to address global and social issues is becoming increasingly important. The Innovation & Entrepreneurship Institute at Temple University established the Changemaker Challenge to encourage the development and creation of social impact ideas and ventures with the aim of creating positive change in local communities and around the world.

The Challenge is open to all members of the Temple University community — students, alumni, faculty and staff — from all 17 of the University’s schools and colleges. Pennsylvania for Modern Cours 2023 Law Student Writing Competition – Deadline March 17th

PIDC D’Alessio Scholarship for Urban Development

PIDC is now accepting applications for the 2023 PIDC D’Alessio Scholarship for Urban Development. Up to two (2) scholarships of up to $2,500 each will be awarded. Scholarship recipients will also be offered a paid PIDC fall internship in 2023. Students must either be pursuing a graduate degree at a Philadelphia college or university or be a Philadelphia resident at a college or university studying outside the Philadelphia area. The PBA Environmental & Energy Law Section Minority Scholarship 

PBF Environmental and Energy Law Section Minority Scholarship awards up to nine scholarships specifically designated to support historically under-represented racial/ethnic minority law students. Emphasis is placed on applicants’ academics, volunteer experience and interests that show a commitment to working as an environmental and energy law attorney. Marshall M. Schulman Criminal Law Student Writing Competition

First year law students are invited to participate in this year’s Marshall M. Milestone’s annual Trial LawHER Scholarship application window is now open. This is a $10,000 scholarship given to a female rising 3L who aspires to become a plaintiff trial lawyer. Applications for the Trial LawHER Scholarship will be accepted until May 1, 2023.

College of Labor and Employment Lawyers – Annual Law Student Writing Competition 2022-2023

The ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law and The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers are pleased to announce their 2022 writing competition.  This competition is open to articles written while the author is an active student at an accredited law school in the United States.  Prizes are as follows:  First Place: $3000; Second Place: $1000, and Third Place:  $500.  The first-place winning article may be selected for publication in the ABA Journal of Labor & Employment Law.  In addition, the author of the first-place paper will be a guest at the ABA Annual Section of Labor and Employment Law Conference and honored at the Annual Induction Dinner of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.  The College and the Section reserve the right not to select any article for publication or award any prizes if, in their judgment, the submissions do not meet their standards for outstanding legal writing.  Please click HERE to view the Announcement and Rules for this Competition. StrangerLaw LLC Law School Scholarship

The attorneys at StangerLaw LLC are passionate about advocating for our personal injury and auto accident clients. So passionate, in fact, that we want to ensure that the next generation of lawyers is prepared to represent these same clients. That preparation begins in law school.

To encourage students to focus on their studies, StangerLaw LLC will award $1,000 to one law student who responds to the video essay prompt. Interested applicants must submit a video essay answering the question: Who is your favorite fictional TV lawyer and why?

To be eligible to receive the $1,000 scholarship, students must:

  • Answer both parts of the prompt in their video essay;
  • Be accepted to, OR currently enrolled in an ABA-accredited U.S. law school for the Fall 2023 semester; and
  • Submit proof of acceptance or enrollment as part of the scholarship application.

The Zimmerman Law Firm 2023 Law School Scholarship

Meltzer Fellowships through the Sheller Center for Social Justice

Meltzer Social Justice Grants offer stipends of $1,000 to $3,000 to students who design and carry out innovative social justice projects. Knit and Crochet Club Beginning Spring 2023!

In the spirit of wellness and mindfulness, Molly Levy, Professor Mandelbaum, and Noeleen Urmson will be coming together to teach (and learn with!) students the art of knitting and crocheting. This is an opportunity to relax, learn a new skill, and more importantly, connect with one another. Yarn, knitting needles, and crochet hooks will be provided so that everyone can get started before the first meeting on January 24th. Stay Healthy this Winter: Flu Shot Clinic and COVID Guidance

Flu Shots for 2022-2023: Seasonal flu vaccinations are now available for all University students, faculty and staff for the 2022-2023 flu season. All Temple University students, faculty and staff may receive a free seasonal flu shot.  You must schedule an appointment on the Patient Health Portal in order to receive your free flu shot. No Walk-ins will be accepted! Flu shots are administer on Main Campus at Morgan Hall North, Room D301 (Entrance from the courtyard in the middle of Morgan North and South).

Temple Campus Walking Escort Program

Call: 8-WALK (8-9255) from a campus phone, or call: 215-777-9255 from a cell phone.Escort service is available daily from 4 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. Security Bike Officers provide escort services and maintain communication with Temple Police. Patrol boundaries are Susquehanna Avenue on the north to Jefferson Street on the south, with the exception of 13th to Broad Street, where the southern boundary is Girard Avenue. The western border is 18th Street and the patrol area extends east to 9th Street

Temple Flight Program

Flight is Temple University’s nighttime fixed-route shuttle loop service. Flight-branded shuttles circulate throughout the areas within and surrounding the main campus patrol zone, and pick up and drop off students at each of its over 40 stops. The shuttles arrive approximately every 15 minutes at each stop, and you can track the locations of each shuttle in real time using the TransLoc app.

  • Any student, faculty, or staff member with a valid TUid can use Flight. A valid TUid can be your physical or mobile OWLcard.
  • Flight operates 7 days per week from 6 PM to 2 AM, and the shuttles arrive at each drop-off and pick-up location every 15 minutes during this service time. The service continues to operate in a modified form during university breaks.
  • Flight serves the Main Campus patrol zone. It operates in two loops – the north loop, which covers the northern parts of the patrol zone, and the south loop, which covers the southern and eastern parts of the patrol zone. Shuttles on each loop follow a fixed route around that loop.

Flight shuttles can be tracked in real time using the TransLoc App during hours of operation. Use the website or app to plan your arrival at the shuttle stop most convenient for you – the shuttle driver will stop for you if they see you at the stop, but the shuttle will continue on its way if no one is waiting. Display your Temple ID when boarding the shuttle, and when you’re a block or so from your destination, let the driver know so they can stop the shuttle and let you off.

RAVE Temple Guardian: Campus Personal Safety Mobile App

RAVE Temple Guardian is a new one-touch personal safety mobile app that allows students, faculty and staff to connect directly with Temple University Police.

Setting Up the App 

Before setting up the Temple Guardian app, verify that Temple has your phone on file.

  • Log in to TUportal.
  • Click “Manage My Account” in the upper-right portion of the screen.
  • Click “Manage Addresses and Phones.”
  • Make sure your phone number is listed with a Phone Type of Mobile—Personal or Mobile—Work. If not, click “Add phone” and follow the prompts to add it.

Then, follow the steps below.

  • Search “Rave Guardian” in the Apple App Store for iPhones or Google Play Store for Android phones. Once downloaded, Temple Guardian will also be integrated within TUmobile.
  • Register using your Temple AccessNet username. Note that email aliases cannot be used when registering for the app.
  • Once registered, you can access new key campus safety features, such as choosing to chat with Temple Police, call Temple Police, call 911 or start a virtual safe walk.
  • In the app, users can also update emergency contacts, vehicle information and choose to share their profile directly with 911.

Virtual Safety Walk

In the app, users can choose to set a “guardian,” who can be a member of their friends or family, or a member of the Temple University Police Department. To access the virtual safe walk feature, users must first allow Temple Guardian to access their location. Then, users can set a fixed time for their departure and arrival, and their guardians are notified when they reach their destination.

Chat with Temple University Police

You can directly connect with Temple Police and discreetly report suspicious activity. To initiate a chat with Temple University Police, on the Temple Guardian main screen, tap “Chat with Police,” and then tap “Chat with TU Police.” To report the tip anonymously, tap the slider next to “Go Anonymous.” The screen will go dark.

PA Disciplinary Board – Monthly Newsletter – January edition now available

The Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania is responsible for regulating attorney conduct in Pennsylvania. The Disciplinary Board promotes ethics education, misconduct prevention, and well-being within the legal community. July 2023 Pennsylvania Bar Application Now Open!

The application period for the July 2023 Pennsylvania Bar Exam is now open. If you plan on sitting for the July 2023 bar exam in Pennsylvania, you can begin your online application today.

If you plan on sitting for the bar exam in another jurisdiction, you should refer to that jurisdiction’s website for more information on the application process, timeline, and fees. Not sure where to start? Check out the NCBE’s Directory of Jurisdiction Bar Admission Agencies.

Kaplan Bar Review seeks 1L/2L reps

Kaplan Bar Review is currently looking for 1L and 2L students to join its student rep team. Responsibilities include promoting the Kaplan course through email and social media and generally being a Kaplan ambassador to promote the course to our student body. Kaplan also runs a table each Wednesday on the 3rd floor of Klein. In exchange for your efforts, Kaplan will provide a free bar course to you when it comes time for you to take the bar exam, along with monetary benefits for each enrollment you help process.

2022-2023 MPRE Dates and Deadlines

The Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE) is a two-hour, 60-question multiple-choice examination administered three times per year. It is required for admission to the bars in almost every jurisdiction in the United States. Dates and deadlines have now been announced for the 2023 MPRE administrations:

  • March 28 & 29, 2023 | registration now closed
  • August 9 & 10, 2023 | registration deadline: June 8, 2023 (not yet open)
  • November 2 & 3, 2023 | registration deadline: September 12, 2023 (not yet open)
