Students will work on a variety of assignments, including researching and writing tax law advice and assisting with tax litigation in practice groups serving the IRS\u2019s Large\u00a0 Business\u00a0 &amp;\u00a0 International\u00a0 Division, the\u00a0 Small\u00a0 Business\/Self\u00a0 Employed\u00a0 Division, and the Criminal Investigation Division.\u00a0 The program\u00a0 provides\u00a0 opportunities\u00a0 for\u00a0 law\u00a0 students\u00a0 to\u00a0 gain\u00a0 practical\u00a0 work\u00a0 experience\u00a0 and\u00a0 become familiar with the Office of Chief Counsel organization and its work. During the course of the student\u2019s practicum, the student will be assigned various tasks from each of the three Divisions so that they gain extensive experience working with all segments of the Service and taxpayers.<\/p>\n<p>Taxation\u00a0 is\u00a0 a\u00a0 prerequisite.\u00a0 Students\u00a0 must\u00a0 commit\u00a0 at\u00a0 least\u00a0 10\u00a0 hours\u00a0 a\u00a0 week\u00a0 to\u00a0 this\u00a0 Practicum. Schedules are flexible to accommodate class schedules.\u00a0 Students employed in legal positions in any\u00a0 capacity\u00a0 during\u00a0 the\u00a0 period\u00a0 for\u00a0 which\u00a0 they\u00a0 are\u00a0 applying\u00a0 for\u00a0 the\u00a0 Practicum\u00a0 will\u00a0 not\u00a0 be considered.\u00a0 Any non-legal employment during the Practicum must be approved by the Office of Chief Counsel before the Practicum begins. Jessup International Moot Court Competition<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Phillip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition is a competition that brings students from law schools across the country to compete with each other in a mock trial as if between nations at the International Court of Justice.\u00a0 The Jessup Team will be responsible for researching and writing legal briefs for both sides in a dispute between two fictitious countries.\u00a0 Students will then form two teams of two to argue a side before a panel of judges, the majority of whom are actual judges or attorneys involved in the practice of international law.\u00a0 This will involve a significant time commitment over the course of the late fall and beginning of the spring semester.\u00a0 Students may earn 2 credits for their Spring Semester.\u00a0 If interested, please email Kyle Offenbecher at <a href=\"mailto:kyle.offenbecher@temple.edu\">kyle.offenbecher@temple.edu<\/a>for more details.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Women&#8217;s Law Caucus Scholarship Application 2019 to 2020<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>This year, the Women\u2019s Law Caucus would like to support <u>three<\/u> deserving upper level students (i.e., 2Ls, 2LEs, 3Ls, 3LEs, and 4LEs) by awarding each a $1,000 scholarship. To ensure fairness, the WLC Executive Board will not be participating in selection, nor will WLC Executive Board members be allowed to apply. Instead, a Selection Committee comprised of members of the faculty and administration will choose the recipients of the scholarships. The scholarships are focused on community involvement in general, legal community involvement, dedication to the advancement of women in the legal community, and financial need.
