Thanks for helping keep our law school looking great!<\/p>\n<h3><em><strong>PA Bar Association EELS Mentorship Program<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<p class=\"x_xmsonormal\">The Pennsylvania Bar Association\u2019s Environmental and Energy Law Section (EELS) is in the process of launching this year\u2019s EELS Mentorship Program (the &#8220;Mentorship Program&#8221; or the &#8220;Program&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xmsonormal\">Since its inception several years ago, the EELS Mentorship Program has paired law students and attorneys interested in the practice of environmental and\/or energy law with experienced practitioners in these fields, who serve as mentors. Mentees and Mentors will be paired based on a variety of factors, such as geographic location and practice area\/area of interest as indicated on the Mentee\/Mentor application attached to this email.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xmsonormal\">Through planned in-person and\/or virtual meetings or activities sponsored by the Mentorship Program, as well as\u00a0 one-on-one in-person and\/or virtual meetings, as determined by the Mentees and Mentors, Mentees will have the opportunity to interface with their own mentor, as well as other experienced practitioners, and gain insight into a number of topics such as developing the necessary skills for successful entry into the practice area of interest, networking tips and career development strategies. Law students and computer science students will compete to design apps that will help change the face of dispute resolution. Finalists will work with Hofstra University&#8217;s computer technologists to develop a prototype of the app, and the winning team will receive $500 thanks to the generous support of the Dispute Resolution of the New York State Bar Association.<\/p>\n<p>The competition, on October 7, is open to all law students. No prior technical background is required and there is no cost to participate. The fellow will collaborate with the Science and Surveillance Project to assist clients of the criminal defense practice with property seizure related collateral consequences. BDS regularly sponsors fellows for Equal Justice Works, Skadden, Liman, Kirkland &amp; Ellis, and school-based fellowships.\u00a0Under the direct supervision of a Supervising Attorney in the Civil Justice Practice the fellow will apply for project funding to address an area of rising need in New York City.<\/p>\n<p>BDS represents approximately 30,000 clients per year in a variety of legal proceedings in New York City, primarily indigent criminal, family, and immigration defense. We also provide legal representation for our clients on a wide range of matters that impact their lives including housing, education, employment, and immigration. We are one of the largest public defense providers; representing people who have diverse, complex, and multi-faceted needs in a high volume and fast-paced setting.<\/p>\n<p>CJP aims to reduce the civil collateral consequences for low-income clients who have had interaction with the criminal, family or immigration justice systems. Through legal advocacy in court and at various agencies, we assist people in eviction defense, benefits advocacy, returning seized property, and interdisciplinary representation.<\/p>\n<p>The Science and Surveillance Project provides technical support to attorneys in criminal cases and engages in larger systemic advocacy.
