The financial aid application process can be completed entirely online.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>STEP 1: Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available online at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fafsa.ed.gov\/\">www.fafsa.ed.gov<\/a>. Click FAFSA Renewal if you would like your 2021-2022 FAFSA information to be -re-filled with basic information from your 2020-2021 FAFSA record. School code &#8211; 003371<\/li>\n<li>STEP 2: Temple Law School Financial Aid Request Form. This online should be completed by students who are interested in borrowing student loans for the 2021-2022 Academic Year. The application can be accessed here\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www4.law.temple.edu\/FinancialAidRequests\/ReturningStudent\">https:\/\/www4.law.temple.edu\/FinancialAidRequests\/ReturningStudent<\/a><\/li>\n<li>STEP 3: Student Loans<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o Unsubsidized Loan: If this is your first time borrowing student loans as a Temple Law Student you will need to complete an electronic Master Promissory Note or complete a new online entrance interview. Returning Temple Law borrowers are not required to complete these applications again.<\/p>\n<p>o Graduate PLUS: A credit application is required regardless if you borrowed in previous semesters. The credit check application can be completed at\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/app\/launchPLUS.action?plusType=gradPlus\">https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/app\/launchPLUS.action?plusType=gradPlus<\/a>. If you will be a new Direct Graduate PLUS loan borrower for 2021-2022, you should refer to the application instructions on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.temple.edu\/resources\/financial-aid\/loans\/\">Federal &amp; Private Loans page<\/a> of the law school website for details on applying for this loan.<\/p>\n<p><em>Summer 2020 Class Session \u2013 DUE 3\/1\/2021\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Please review the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.temple.edu\/Pages\/Current_Students\/Summer_Financial_Aid.aspx\">Summer Financial Aid Options<\/a> on the Law School website for detailed information about summer financial aid process and requirements.\u00a0 The Law School Financial Aid Office will contact you to schedule an appointment once you have completed all of the required forms. The application process for these stipends is open to any interested law student. <strong>Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We seek proposals for projects that would serve unmet needs of indigent or otherwise vulnerable populations, designed by and conducted by students. These novel projects will implicate systemic change and will take their direction from impacted communities. These projects could take a variety of forms, from policy interventions to advocacy campaigns to the creation of ongoing service opportunities. Projects will serve communities in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>Students can work individually or as a team. Those who are interested in creating a Meltzer Project should submit a grant application that includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A description of the proposed project (at least two pages long):\n<ul>\n<li>Explain the need for the project: what is the problem and why is this intervention<br \/>\nan appropriate solution<br \/>\no Describe the community to be served and their interest in this intervention<br \/>\no Detail the applicant\u2019s relevant experience, including work with the relevant<br \/>\ncommunity<br \/>\no Make clear how the project will engage\/seek feedback from the relevant community<br \/>\no Provide details about the project, including a description of the final deliverable<br \/>\no Lay out deadlines for submission of a final project proposal, a mid-term report, and<br \/>\nthe final deliverable<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The name of a Temple Law faculty member who will provide feedback and guidance on<br \/>\nthe project.<\/li>\n<li>The name of an organization(s) with which the students will collaborate on the project.<br \/>\nThis could be a policy, advocacy, community, or legal services organization. Provide the<br \/>\nname and contact information for an individual at the organization(s).<\/li>\n<li>A resume for each student participating in the project.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We suggest that students review the Mission, Vision, and Values of the Sheller Center for Social<br \/>\nJustice to ensure that proposals are aligned with the Center\u2019s approach. Stipends will be awarded based on your estimate of the amount of time you will devote to the project:<\/p>\n<p>$1,000 (for approximately 50 hours work)<br \/>\n$2,000 (for approximately 100 hours work)<br \/>\n$3,000 (for approximately 150 hours work)<\/p>\n<p>An additional amount may be awarded if there are costs related to executing the project (please<br \/>\nspecify what these costs are in your project description).<\/p>\n<p>In addition to mid-term and final reporting requirements, grant recipients will be required to make<br \/>\nthemselves available to give a live presentation to the law school community on their project.<\/p>\n<p>These factors will be assessed in reviewing applications:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The positive impact on the relevant community, and the potential for systemic change<\/li>\n<li>The level of community participation in the project and its design<\/li>\n<li>The level of unmet needs<\/li>\n<li>The added value of the project, in that it does not replicate existing efforts or projects<\/li>\n<li>The level of collaboration with other organizations working on the problem<\/li>\n<li>Whether the project is one for which students can take primary responsibility, both in<br \/>\ninitiating and conducting the work<\/li>\n<li>The feasibility of the project within the projected timeline<\/li>\n<li>Preference will be given to students who are proposing their first project (although we will consider new and different projects by former Meltzer recipients)<\/li>\n<li>Some preference may be given to proposals that involve collaboration with people from other disciplines (including, but not limited to, with other departments at Temple University)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Fellowship funds cannot be awarded to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students looking to fund internships<\/li>\n<li>Non-legal projects (e.g., organizing, social work)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Examples of potential projects include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A student or team could work with a grass-roots organization (e.g., a neighborhood- or<br \/>\ncity-based group concerned with criminal justice; a parent group concerned with public<br \/>\neducation; a group concerned with workers\u2019 or immigrants\u2019 rights) to develop a proposal<br \/>\nfor policy, regulatory or legislative change on a subject of concern to its members. The research will involve doctrinal and theoretical issues related to international criminal law. This mission stems out of a desire to diversify the legal profession and raise the percentage of Black attorneys in the United States from 5% to 20% by 2024.\u00a0 Students can register for the fund <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSfROiEn2LUprQGcyOwwsA3jvrRy_sX26VhMV2NGLysxl0nU8g\/viewform\">here<\/a> and each time the fund has $500 they will donate it to the first applicant in line to receive a grant.
