The American Inns of Court is a nation-wide organization dedicated to increasing collegiality within the legal profession.\u00a0 Local Chapters of practicing attorneys meet the last Wednesday of each month from 5:50 to 8 to learn from each other, socialize, and generally be collegial.\u00a0 We are fortunate that in Philadelphia, there is an Inn of Court chapter specifically for environmental law practitioners.\u00a0 Students are assigned to small groups that each develop a CLE presentation and to individual mentors.\u00a0 This is a genuinely nice group of roughly 80 or so area environmental attorneys, representing a broad diversity of practice areas and perspectives.\u00a0 There are big firm lawyers, small and medium firm lawyers, government lawyers from the federal, state and local level, administrative law judges, and public interest lawyers.\u00a0 The Inn values diversity and inclusion which are essential to our Inn\u2019s mission and is considered essential to the mission of the entire American Inns of Court, and thus particularly welcomes applications from diverse students.<\/p>\n<p>To apply, please email Professor Amy Sinden at <a href=\"mailto:asinden@temple.edu\">asinden@temple.edu<\/a>.\u00a0 Include a brief statement of interest as well as your resume.\u00a0 The deadline to apply is Sunday, September 22nd.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"section-9\">EU Law Lectures by Professor Paolo Butturini \u2013 September 23rd &amp; 25th<\/h3>\n<p>Paolo Butturini, Assistant Professor of Business Law at the University of Verona, Italy will be giving two talks on EU Law.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Monday, September 23 at noon, K1C\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Five Major Differences between US and EU Business Law: A Primer from an Italian Lawyer.\u00a0 Lunch will be served.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wednesday, September 25 at noon, K1C \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>When are Company Obligations Valid?\u00a0 A Crucial Topic in European Union Company Law.\u00a0 Sponsored by Institute for International Law and Public Policy.\u00a0 Lunch will be served.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Invitation to Attend the Philadelphia Bar Association Probate &amp; Trust Section Quarterly Meeting<\/h3>\n<p>The Philadelphia Bar Association Probate and Trust Section is inviting two students to attend its October quarterly meeting free of charge, including lunch and an educational program.\u00a0 The topic of the program is &#8220;Estate Planning for Solo Practitioner: How to Plan During Your Lifetime and How to Administer a Practice Upon Death.&#8221;\u00a0 The meeting will take place on October 17, 2019, from noon to 2:30 pm at the Philadelphia Bar Association headquarters at 1101 Market Street, 11th Floor.\u00a0 This is a great chance to learn about the practice of estate planning and meet locust trusts and estates lawyers.\u00a0 Interested students should email Professor Weiner at <a href=\"mailto:weiner@temple.edu\">weiner@temple.edu<\/a> by the end of the day on Tuesday, September 24.\u00a0 Students will be selected at random.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"section-11\">PA Board of Law Examiners \u2013 September 26th<\/h3>\n<p>The Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners will provide an important presentation on applying and sitting for the bar examination on September 26th in K2A.\u00a0 They will also answer Character and Fitness related questions.\u00a0 Can\u2019t make it in person?\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=l2G7be3MfwQ\">Join us via livestream<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"section-12\">2019 History Book Festival with Professor Tsai \u2013 September 28th<\/h3>\n<p>One of Professor Robert Tsai\u2019s books has been selected for this event.\u00a0 He will be in conversation with former Delaware Supreme Court Justice Randy Holland in Lewes, DE, on September 28th at 11:30 am.\u00a0 More information can be found<a href=\"https:\/\/www.historybookfestival.org\/practical-equality\">\u00a0here.<\/a><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"section-13\">Spring 2020 School Designed Practicum with the Office of Chief Counsel, IRS \u2013 Deadline to Apply October 1st<\/h3>\n<p>There is one slot available for second and third year law students in this Practicum supervised by Professor Kathy Mandelbaum.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0 experiential\u00a0 project\u00a0 offered\u00a0 with\u00a0 this\u00a0 Practicum\u00a0 is\u00a0 at\u00a0 the\u00a0 Office\u00a0 of\u00a0 Chief\u00a0 Counsel\u00a0 for\u00a0 the Internal Revenue Service. Students will work on a variety of assignments, including researching and writing tax law advice and assisting with tax litigation in practice groups serving the IRS\u2019s Large\u00a0 Business\u00a0 &amp;\u00a0 International\u00a0 Division, the\u00a0 Small\u00a0 Business\/Self\u00a0 Employed\u00a0 Division, and the Criminal Investigation Division.\u00a0 The program\u00a0 provides\u00a0 opportunities\u00a0 for\u00a0 law\u00a0 students\u00a0 to\u00a0 gain\u00a0 practical\u00a0 work\u00a0 experience\u00a0 and\u00a0 become familiar with the Office of Chief Counsel organization and its work. During the course of the student\u2019s practicum, the student will be assigned various tasks from each of the three Divisions so that they gain extensive experience working with all segments of the Service and taxpayers.<\/p>\n<p>Taxation\u00a0 is\u00a0 a\u00a0 prerequisite.\u00a0 Students\u00a0 must\u00a0 commit\u00a0 at\u00a0 least\u00a0 10\u00a0 hours\u00a0 a\u00a0 week\u00a0 to\u00a0 this\u00a0 Practicum. Schedules are flexible to accommodate class schedules.\u00a0 Students employed in legal positions in any\u00a0 capacity\u00a0 during\u00a0 the\u00a0 period\u00a0 for\u00a0 which\u00a0 they\u00a0 are\u00a0 applying\u00a0 for\u00a0 the\u00a0 Practicum\u00a0 will\u00a0 not\u00a0 be considered.\u00a0 Any non-legal employment during the Practicum must be approved by the Office of Chief Counsel before the Practicum begins. The office is located at 701 Market Street in Philadelphia, and is easily accessible by several modes of public transportation. Jessup International Moot Court Competition<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Phillip C.
