AAJ is proud to continue to offer these scholarships and will highlight and honor recipients during <a href=\"http:\/\/justiceannualconvention.org\/\"><strong>AAJ\u2019s 2026 Annual Convention<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.org\/member-groups\/caucuses\/law-students\/hailey-scholarship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Richard D. Hailey Scholarship<\/a><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>AAJ&#8217;s Minority Caucus will award a $5,000 scholarship along with registration to our 2026 Annual Convention to a minority Law Student member entering his or her first, second, or third year of law school.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.org\/member-groups\/caucuses\/law-students\/eidson-scholarship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mike Eidson Scholarship<\/a><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Women Trial Lawyers Caucus awards a $5,000 scholarship along with registration to our 2026 Annual Convention to a female law student entering her third year (or fourth year in a part-time program) of law school who has demonstrated a commitment to a career as a trial lawyer.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.org\/member-groups\/caucuses\/law-students\/leesfield-scholarship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Leesfield AAJ Scholarship<\/a><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Leesfield AAJ scholarship awards $1,500 to a first- or second-year Law Student member.<\/p>\n<p>With the exception of the Mike Eidson Scholarship, applicants must be an AAJ Law Student member to qualify for a scholarship. Law students can join AAJ at the rate of $15 for one year. For more details about Law Student membership, visit the AAJ website at <a href=\"http:\/\/justice.org\/join\"><strong>justice.org\/join<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0<strong>All law student scholarship applications are due May 1, 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>July 2026 Deadline<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4 id=\"animal26\"><strong><em>Animal Law Student Writing Competition: NYSBA Committee on Animals and the Law \u2013 Deadline July 6th<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The New York State Bar Association Committee on Animals and the Law is very pleased to announce the 16th Annual Student Writing Competition. <strong>The deadline for submission is Monday, July 6, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Committee on Animals and the Law was established to provide information and resources for the New York State Bar Association\u2019s members and the public about non-human, animal-related humane issues, which arise from and have an effect upon our legal system. This competition seeks to foster legal scholarship among law students in the area of animals and the law. This competition provides law students with an incentive and opportunity to learn more about this area of law.<\/p>\n<p>Law students (which include J.D., L.L.M., Ph.D., and S.J.D. candidates), are invited to submit to the Committee on Animals and the Law, an article concerning any area of Animal Law. All submissions will be reviewed by a panel of attorneys and other professionals practicing or otherwise involved in animal law. The winners will be chosen in accordance with the competition rules.<\/p>\n<p>The<strong> first-place<\/strong> winner will receive $1,000 and a Certificate of Achievement. The <strong>second-place<\/strong> winner will receive $500 and a Certificate of Achievement. The <strong>third and fourth place<\/strong> winners will receive a Certificate of Recognition.<\/p>\n<p>The Committee also reserves the right to offer the winners (and other entrants), at the Committee\u2019s discretion, the opportunity to publish his\/her paper in the Committee\u2019s Laws &amp; Paws publication. Offers to publish are purely within the discretion of the Committee. Furia, Esq. co-founder of The Justinian Foundation, followed in his father, the Honorable Edward W. Furia&#8217;s footsteps, both having served as chancellors of The Justinian Society. Before Richard&#8217;s death in 2011, he requested that memorial donations be sent to The Justinian Foundation. Richard was very active in the Society ad the Orders of the Sounds of Italy in America Commission for Social Justice, fighting against stereotypes that sought to disenfranchise Italian-Americans. Brown Scholarship Foundation is pleased to announce the thirty-second annual<em>\u00a0Brown Award<\/em>. The Award honors excellence in legal writing in American law schools. Any law student currently enrolled in an accredited law school in the United States seeking a J.D. or LL.B degree is eligible to submit a paper for the Award. The article must be accompanied by a\u00a0<strong>letter of recommendation from a law school faculty member or legal professional other than the author of the paper<\/strong>. The submission must be postmarked no later than May 30, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The submission must contain a\u00a0<strong>separate sheet<\/strong>\u00a0containing the title of the paper; the name, physical address, telephone number, and email address of the student; the name of the student\u2019s law school; and the name, title, physical address, and email address of the student\u2019s sponsor. There is no page limitation or restriction on the topic except that the writing must be on a legal subject. Papers that have been submitted to a law review for publication are eligible, but the submission must be of the paper in its form before it was edited by anyone other than the author.<\/p>\n<p>The Foundation will appoint a final judging panel consisting of a law school dean, a federal judge, and a law school professor.
