2022 SPIN Deans’ Cup – Save the Date – April 16th 10AM-2PM

I. Herman Stern Moot Court Competition – April 20 4PM

The four finalists for this year’s I. Herman Stern Moot Court Competition:

Mary Beth Griffin (on behalf of Appellant) v. Kayla Fisher (on behalf of Appellee) and Andrew Perrong (on behalf of Appellant) v. Bria Smith (on behalf of Appellee)
The four finalists will be arguing a Second Amendment case that is currently pending in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.  The final round of the Stern Competition will take place on Wednesday, April 20, at 4 pm via zoom, and our students will be arguing in front of a panel comprised of the Honorable Elizabeth Hey (US Magistrate Judge-EDPA), the Honorable Dan Anders (Philadelphia CCP Judge), and Lawrence Goode, Supervisor of the Appeals Unit for the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.

MELTZER SUMMER FELLOWS – THROUGH THE SHELLER CENTER FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE

Meltzer Fellowships offer stipends of $1,000 to $3,000 for student projects focused on social justice, to be conducted during the summer of 2022. The application process is open to any interested law student, including students graduating this spring.  Students can work individually or as a team. COURSE REGISTRATION – FALL 2022

Registration will take place between March 28 – April 15, 2022 according to the attached schedule which can also be found here. Before planning your schedule, please review the following information:

  • A list of the Temple Law graduation requirements can be found here.
  • Information about registering for an Independent Guided Research project can be found here.
  • Information about Practicum courses (including important deadlines) can be found here.  In order to register for an independent, for-profit or repeat practicum placement, students must complete the Practicum Approval Form by 12PM on July 28, 2022.
  • The first day of fall 2022 classes is August 29th and the law school academic calendar can be found here.
  • Add/Drop will take place from 8/8/22 – 9/2/22.  Wait-lists will open at that time.

2022 Ms. JD Law Student Leadership Academy.

Rising 2L, 3Ls and 4Ls are welcome to attend this two-day virtual conference on Thursday, June 23rd and Friday, June 24th. This event features attorneys, thought leaders, and professional development professionals speaking on their personal experiences as women in leadership positions and sharing their advice on how to develop the professional skills required to pursue leadership roles.  Students will have the opportunity to participate in live workshops and panel discussions exploring a range of topics, including being a strong leader, using your story to inspire, setting boundaries, developing your online presence, networking to leadership opportunities, and more!  You are also invited to a Coffee and Connections session featuring Katie Day, Ms. JD’s National Women Law Students’ Organization (NWLSO) Director, on Friday, June 24th at 12:45 PM (ET). During this virtual networking session, students will engage in a series of activities to help them build relationships with other law students answering the call to leadership.  To sign up, students should go to the 2022 Ms. JD Law Student Leadership Academy website. Registration is FREE but limited to 300 students.

Spring 2022 Exam Schedule

The Spring 2022 examination schedule is now available here. This Spring, the last day of classes is Monday, April 25, 2022.  Exams will begin on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 and end on Monday, May 9, 2022.  If you do not see an exam listed on the “Exam Schedule Fall 2022” document, please check the “Free Slot Exams” document and the “Take-Home Exams” document.

COVID-19 REMINDERS AND UPDATES

DRS ACCOMMODATION PROCESS FOR STUDENTS: Any student who seeks an academic accommodation related to the pandemic through the Office of Disability Resources and Services can start the process at any point in the semester. Fox Financial Literacy Program Coordinator – Work Study Eligible

The Fox Financial Literacy Program works directly with the Eastern District of Pennsylvania’s Supervision To Aid Re-Entry (STAR) program. For the past five years, the Fox School of Business has provided the STAR program with students to assist its participants with advice and education about personal finance.  Fox is looking for one to two motivated 2L(2LE/3LE) or 3L(4LE) students to be a coordinator between the Fox team and Re-Entry Court. The coordinator must attend the pre-meeting and court session on either Tuesday mornings, 9:00 am -11:00 am, or Wednesday afternoons, 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm for the full academic 2022-2023 year. Responsibilities include: assigning students to clients during each Tuesday (Judge Restrepo) or Wednesday (Judge Reid) court session; coordinating between the Re-Entry team and the students for the students’ monthly presentations; helping further develop financial literacy materials for the program; providing summaries and updates to court officials on client progress or potential issues; and meeting with the Fox team’s faculty supervisor, Professor Jeffrey Boles. Further, the coordinator would assist in assigning students to provide help to other court programs including Mental Health Court and Relapse Prevention Court. The coordinator will work an estimated 10 hours per week, and the position pays $13/hour. If interested, please provide your resume, a brief statement of interest (500 max), and your choice of each court session (Tuesday morning and/or Wednesday afternoon) to Professor Jeffrey Boles at jboles@temple.edu by Thursday, April 21, 2022.

PBA Intellectual Property Law 2022 Writing Contest

The PBA Intellectual Property Law Section is offering $500 to the law student winner of the section’s 2022 writing contest. This is an opportunity for law students to express in writing their insight and knowledge in the areas of patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets or trade dress. Graduation Regalia

You can purchase your regalia at the Temple University Bookstore (not the Law School Bookstore) which is located in the Gittis Student Center on 13th Street in the Lower level at the Textbook Information Desk starting in March until Graduation day. The law school regalia package is $93.98. Regalia can also be purchased separately. Cap and Gown – $52.98, Hood – $40.99, Tassel – $7.98 and Tam – $53.98.
