Admissions Housing Survey – We Hope You Can Participate

The Law School Admissions Office is asking for your help in responding to an anonymous survey to obtain information about our current students’ housing experiences. This information will be distributed to admitted students and will help them locate the housing that best suits their needs. Securing housing is often listed as one of the biggest stressors in the transition process for new students and given the current climate, providing your feedback on this survey will help the incoming class make a confident housing decision.

Again, the survey is anonymous and should take approximately five minutes to complete. The housing guide is being put together with the help of VeryApt, an emerging startup in the real estate tech industry. How to Request Materials from the Law Library for Contactless Checkout

If you would like to request an item from the Law Library please complete this form.  You will receive an email from a staff member at the Law Library when your item is ready for pick up. Please allow at least 2 hours for your request to be processed during normal library hours. Requests received outside library hours will be processed the next working day.  You will be able to pick up your items from a cart on the second floor of Klein Hall. Items not picked up in seven days will be returned to the collection.

Study Aids Available through the Library

Have you signed up for online access to CALI, Quimbee, the West Academic Study Aid Library, and the Wolters Kluwer Online Study Aid Library?   Check out this link for more information about these resources and how to sign up.  If you have any questions just ask by emailing tulawlib@temple.edu.

Summer Work Study Application Process & Deadlines

Now is the time to apply for summer work study.  Even if you don’t know where you will be working this summer, or if you will even need work study, you should still complete the process and make sure your application is filed on time.

Summer Work-Study Application Deadlines:

Employer information is not required to complete the financial aid forms. We will begin reviewing applications after the March 1st deadline has passed. Students who are eligible for Summer Work-Study will be notified via email. If you will be working with an off-campus employer (must be non-profit or government), you will need to complete a separate application for matching funds which will be available April 12th.

  • April 12th:
    • Complete the Law Foundation Matching Grant Application
    • After your matching grant application has been reviewed and approved you will receive an email with instructions to complete the Summer Work-Study payroll process prior to your start date.

The Summer Work-Study period begins May 10th, 2021  and ends August 13th, 2021.  A more detailed explanation of what Summer Work-Study is and how you can apply for it can be found here: https://www.law.temple.edu/resources/financial-aid/summer/work-study/

Upcoming Financial Aid Deadlines

Application for Financial Aid for the 2021-2022 Academic Year – DUE 3/1/2021

Now is the time to begin the financial aid application process for the 2021-2022 academic year. The financial aid application process can be completed entirely online.

  • STEP 1: Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Click FAFSA Renewal if you would like your 2021-2022 FAFSA information to be -re-filled with basic information from your 2020-2021 FAFSA record. School code – 003371
  • STEP 2: Temple Law School Financial Aid Request Form. This online should be completed by students who are interested in borrowing student loans for the 2021-2022 Academic Year. The application can be accessed here  https://www4.law.temple.edu/FinancialAidRequests/ReturningStudent
  • STEP 3: Student Loans

o Unsubsidized Loan: If this is your first time borrowing student loans as a Temple Law Student you will need to complete an electronic Master Promissory Note or complete a new online entrance interview. Returning Temple Law borrowers are not required to complete these applications again.

o Graduate PLUS: A credit application is required regardless if you borrowed in previous semesters. The credit check application can be completed at  https://studentaid.gov/app/launchPLUS.action?plusType=gradPlus. The 2021-2022 credit check application will not be available until May 1st, 2021. We will send an email reminder in early May letting you know when it is time to complete the application process. If you will be a new Direct Graduate PLUS loan borrower for 2021-2022, you should refer to the application instructions on the Federal & Private Loans page of the law school website for details on applying for this loan.

Summer 2020 Class Session – DUE 3/1/2021 

Please review the Summer Financial Aid Options on the Law School website for detailed information about summer financial aid process and requirements.  The Law School Financial Aid Office will contact you to schedule an appointment once you have completed all of the required forms. Summer financial aid appointments will start on March 6th and continue throughout the spring semester.

Summer Work-Study Grants – DUE 3/1/2021  

If you plan to apply for summer work-study you need to complete the Summer Work-Study Request section of the 2021-2022 Temple Law School Financial Aid Application. All students who anticipate they will need summer work-study should be sure to read the information posted on the law school website at http://www.law.temple.edu/Pages/Current_Students/Current_Work_Study.aspx .

  • 2021-2022 Temple Law School Financial Aid Request Form and Summer Work-Study Request which is available online at  http://www4.law.temple.edu/financialaidrequests. Please select the application for Returning Students, even if this is your first time applying for financial aid.

WADA Scholarship

The Washington Attorneys with Disabilities Association is thrilled to offer a scholarship to be granted this academic year to a law student who has shown commitment to helping promote meaningful inclusion of people with disabilities throughout the legal profession and by sharing the personal experience of a person with disabilities while pursuing a legal career. Elk County Community Foundation Greiner/Roof Memorial Scholarship

Any students who graduated from any high school in Elk (Elk County Catholic, Johnsonburg, Ridgway, St. Marys High Schools) or Cameron County and is current enrolled an an accredit law school is encouraged to apply using this link. Pennsylvanians for Modern Courts ($5000 Writing Contest) – “Why Should Pennsylvania Focus on Increasing Diversity in its Appellate Courts”

Pennsylvanians for Modern Courts sponsors an Annual Law School writing contest (2000-2300 words) and awards $5,000 to the best essay.  This year the topic is “Why Should Pennsylvania Focus on Increasing Diversity in its Appellate Courts”. The deadline has been extended to February 26th.  We encourage you to consider this opportunity.

The New York Intellectual Property Law Association (NYIPLA) Hon. William C. Conner Intellectual Property Law Writing Competition

The Hon. William C. Conner Writing Competition was established to recognize exceptionally written papers that are submitted by law students and is presented each year at the Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner. The competition is open to students enrolled in a J.D. or LL.M. program (day or evening). The subject matter must be directed to one of the traditional subject areas of intellectual property, i.e., patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, unfair trade practices, antitrust, and data security/privacy issues. Entries must be submitted electronically by Sunday, February 28, 2021, to Richard Brown, rbrown@daypitney.com. The program is open to 2L-4E students in good academic and disciplinary standing at an ABA-accredited law school. Do you want to learn about this exciting opportunity to study in Tokyo and expand your law school experience? YOU’RE INVITED – SPIN Presents: The Deans’ Cup: Talent Show Edition!!!

Every year SPIN hosts an Auction to raise money for student grants. This spring, SPIN will be celebrating the start of the Auction with a virtual party, and you all are invited!! SPIN is excited to announce that the Deans’ Cup: Talent Show Edition will take place on March 19th at 7PM. The show will feature performances by faculty and students, and we are sending out invitations to all members of the Temple Law Community, alumni included! We would like to invite you to submit a short video (or tiktok) of yourself and your talent to be included in the show! In terms of talents, the sky is the limit. Cooking, juggling, dancing, impersonations, reenacting your favorite cases, whatever you can think of! There will be prizes, as voted on by your peers, professors, and Temple Law alumni. WELLNESS PROGRAMMING

Mindful Mondays

Everyone is invited to participate in a 20-minute guided mindfulness meditation practice. Mindfulness meditation involves paying attention on purpose to the present moment without judgment. No experience is necessary. Watch this great video from Professor Meg deGuzman as she gives a brief presentation about mindfulness and engages in a short meditation practice. This is a great primer for Mindful Mondays.  Join us on Zoom, every Monday at noon.

Wellness – Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers Confidential Office Hours

Ms. Laurie Besden, Esquire, Executive Director of Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers (LCL), will be hosting confidential student office hours (times listed below). Students can meet with Laurie to talk confidentially about addiction, alcohol issues, mental health, gambling, stress, depression or ethical and bar related questions related to any of these issues.  If you have concerns about another law student or a family member, you can also speak with Laurie about that. This is an opportunity to receive help and we encourage you to utilize this vital resource. The Community Fund for Black Bar Applicants

The Community Fund for Black Bar Applicants was founded by Octavia Carson, J.D.  The mission is to provide $500 grants to Black bar exam applicants across the United States. This mission stems out of a desire to diversify the legal profession and raise the percentage of Black attorneys in the United States from 5% to 20% by 2024.  Students can register for the fund here and each time the fund has $500 they will donate it to the first applicant in line to receive a grant. Students can apply multiple times but may be moved to the end of the list after they receive the first grant.
