SPRING 2025 PRACTICUM INFORMATION
We are pleased to share some important information on our practicum course offerings for the Spring 2025 semester. A practicum course offers students an opportunity to earn 2- or 3-credits in connection with an unpaid experiential opportunity. In a practicum course, students will engage in a project for a real client under the supervision of an on-site practicing attorney or supervisor and a full-time faculty member. We offer two types of practicum courses: School Designed Practicums and Independent Practicums.
School Designed Practicum Catalogue
Our School Designed Practicums are pre-approved practicum opportunities with designated faculty supervisors. Each semester, we published a School Designed Practicum Course Catalogue that provides a description for each practicum course and the application requirements. We are pleased to share the first version of our Spring 2025 School Designed Practicum Course Catalogue and encourage you to consider the opportunities in the document linked here: Spring 2025 School Designed Practicums (1). We will continue to update and circulate this list in the upcoming weeks and early summer months as additional opportunities become available or are confirmed.
Questions? Email lawpract@temple.edu or contact Associate Director Urmson at nurmson@temple.edu.
Independent Practicums: Information and Approval Form – Deadline December 12th
Independent Practicums provide students an opportunity to earn academic credit for an experiential opportunity not otherwise offered by the law school. Upon accepting an unpaid legal internship or externship position, a student seeking to pursue an Independent Practicum must obtain approval from Dean Ramji-Nogales by completing the Practicum Approval Form. Once approved, the student will then need to secure a full-time faculty member to act as the faculty supervisor for their practicum. The deadline to submit Practicum Approval Forms for the Spring 2025 semester is December 12, 2024 at 12 pm.
Questions? Email lawpract@temple.edu or contact Associate Director Urmson at nurmson@temple.edu.
Practicum Registration – Information and Practicum Agreement – Deadline January 6th
All students who wish to register for a practicum must submit a completed Practicum Agreement, signed by the student’s faculty supervisor and site supervisor, through the Practicum Agreement Submission Form on our website. The Practicum Agreement serves as the registration form for the practicum course. Once submitted, the student will be administratively registered for their practicum by the end of the add/drop period. Students seeking to pursue a practicum opportunity for the spring semester should plan on registering for a full course load during general registration and dropping a course during the add/drop period if they need to make room in their schedule. The deadline to submit Practicum Agreements for the Spring 2025 semester is January 6, 2025 at 12 pm.
Questions? Email lawpract@temple.edu or contact Associate Director Urmson at nurmson@temple.edu.
FINAL EXAM INFORMATION – FALL 2024
UPDATED Fall 2024 Exam Schedule
As you know, the last day of fall classes is Thursday, December 5, 2024. The exam period begins Friday, December 6, 2024 and ends on Thursday, December 19, 2024. If you do not see an exam listed on the F24 Exam Schedule, please check the F24 Take-Home Schedule and the F24 Free Slot Schedule.
Students with a F24 Free Slot exam can take the exam at any Free Slot on the F24 Exam Schedule. You do not need to need to notify us beforehand – just come to Exam Central and we will have the exam ready for you.
Please note that occasionally a faculty member changes the format or length of an exam, or sometimes we change the exam room. As of November 15, 2024, the F24 Exam Schedule and F24 Take-Home Schedule have been updated. Although these schedules are as accurate as we can make them, we ask that you please check the exam schedule online in the weeks leading up to the exam period.
Exam Conflict Forms – Due Monday, November 18th
Two scheduled in-class exams that begin within a 30-hour period will be considered a conflict. A student with an exam conflict must take one of those exams at its scheduled time and may elect (unless otherwise specified) to take the other exam during a free slot after its scheduled time. Having a scheduled exam on each of three consecutive calendar days is also a conflict. To resolve this type of conflict, the exam scheduled for the middle calendar day will be deferred to a subsequent date.
A take home exam will be considered for the purpose of determining whether a conflict exists only when the deadline for its return is fixed on a specific calendar day that conflicts with a scheduled in-class exam and the exam is made available to the students within 24 hours or less of that deadline. If you believe that you have a conflict between take home exams which are due on the same date, you should inquire in the Office of Student Services about the possibility of relief, which will depend on when each exam will be made available. Both take home exams would have to be available to you for a relatively short period of time for a conflict to exist.
If you have an exam conflict as defined above and wish to reschedule an exam, you must fill out an Exam Conflict Form and return the completed form to Barrack Hall Room 103 or email molly.paige.levy@temple.edu by Monday, November 18, 2024.
When a conflict exists, the Associate Dean for Student Affairs will determine which exam(s) must be taken as scheduled and which exam(s) is to be deferred. You will have an opportunity to state your preference on the Exam Conflict Form. You will be informed of any scheduled exam that is not allowed to be deferred. A deferred exam must be taken in a subsequent free slot of your choosing. Free slot periods are clearly marked on the exam schedule. No exam can be taken in advance of its scheduled administration. If within the two week exam period you cannot arrange your overall exam schedule to avoid taking exams on successive calendar days, you may discuss the possibility of individualized relief with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs.
