Welcome Back Help Desk

Welcome back to law school.  We hope you will stop by the Help Desk on the second floor of Klein Hall to say hello, ask questions, and get any information you might need.  The Help Desk will run:

Library Assistance – Reference Librarians

The Temple University Beasley School of Law Library actively supports the goals of the Temple University Beasley School of Law by providing exceptional library and research services through its knowledge, expertise, and resources. Reference Librarians are available for reference help via chat from 10am-1pm and 2pm-4pm Monday through Friday. We hope you will stop by!

Student Bar Association – Budget Committee Application Open

The Student Bar Association (SBA) is accepting applications from students for the 2021-2022 Budget Committee. This group oversees the funding of all student organizations at Temple Law, organizes a yearly budget, acts as a resource and support for treasures in student organizations, and advocates for changes to SBA funding policies. The group is chaired by the SBA Treasurer and will include six outstanding students. Two (2) seats are reserved for 1L/1LE students while four (4) are for upperclass students, so all students are are interested should apply.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES & TA POSITIONS

TAs Needed – Fall 2021 Integrated Trial Advocacy (ITAP) and Advanced Trial Ad (ATA)

Upper level students interested in applying to be a TA in ITAP or ATA should email Mary Beth Wilson at mwilson6@temple.edu ASAP. Payment is $12/hour. Work Study is preferred, but not required. As of now, Fall classes are being held in person and there is a mask mandate in our classrooms. If for any reason we are forced to change to an online class format (Zoom), you are expected to continue your appointment in this format.  Class assistants will:

  • attend each class and play the witness role(s) as needed;
  • act as liaison between the Trial Ad Office, instructors, and students, i.e. contacting students with changes in assignments, dates, or other information; handouts, student feedback forms processing, etc.;
  • make sure all forms are distributed, completed, and returned as instructed.

NOTE: This appointment fulfills one of the requirements for the ‘Trial Advocacy Certificate’ program.

WELLNESS PROGRAMMING

Weekly Wellness Tip

Welcome back! Healthy lawyers begin as healthy law students. Each week find a different wellness tip that will focus on one of the six dimensions of wellness: Emotional, Intellectual, Occupational, Physical, Spiritual and Social. This week’s tip is about what each dimension means. 

  • Emotional – Valuing emotions, developing an ability to identify and manage emotions for health, to achieve goals, and to inform decisions. Seeking help for mental health when needed. 
  • Intellectual – Engaging in creative or intellectually challenging activities that foster ongoing development and monitoring cognitive wellness. 
  • Occupational – Seeking personal satisfaction, continuous learning and growth in our professional and personal lives, and financial stability.  
  • Physical – Striving for regular activity, good diet and nutrition, enough sleep and recovery. Limit addictive substances and seek help for physical health when needed. 
  • Spiritual – Fostering a sense of meaningfulness and purpose in work and life, and aligning your work and life with your values, goals, and interests. 
  • Social – Building connection, belonging, and a reliable support network. Contributing to our groups and communities. 

Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers Confidential Office Hours

Ms. Laurie Besden, Esquire, Executive Director of Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers (LCL) will be hosting student office hours on September 28th.  Students can meet with Laurie to talk confidentially about stress, depression, or ethical and bar related questions.  If you have concerns about another law student or a family member, you can also speak with Laurie about that. This is an opportunity to receive help and we encourage you to utilize this vital resource. As always, LCL is available at any other time.  To reach LCL please call 1-888-999-1941.  Please note that Laurie does not share any information with faculty or administration – this is completely confidential.

SCHOLARSHIPS & WRITING COMPETITIONS

Roxana C. Arsht Fellowship

The Roxana C. Arsht Fellowship is to encourage law students, recent law school graduates and attorneys newly admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Delaware to pursue careers in non-profit sectors in Delaware. In an effort to encourage attorneys to work in public interest positions, the Fellowship offers financial assistance for three years to each recipient selected. Applicants must apply for the Fellowship within three years of law school graduation, and must secure a position with a non-profit organization that provides legal services that benefit the Delaware community, underrepresented groups, or indigent person in Delaware. An applicant’s annual salary may not exceed $63,000 to be eligible for the Fellowship. For the year 2021, the Fellowship Committee will accept applications from August 16 through October 15, 2021. A decision will be announced by December 15, 2021, with one award being approved. The amount of the award will vary each year as it is based on the annual interest earned by the Fellowship Fund. Recipients will have two opportunities to pass the Delaware Bar exam, and if necessary, they must sit for the exam in consecutive years to continue their eligibility. TEMPLE 10-Q

The Temple 10-Q is the electronic newsletter turned blog about business law at Temple Law.  The Temple 10-Q features regular contributions by alumni, students, and faculty on various aspects of their business law work, features about accomplishments by community members, and announcements about upcoming business law events of interest. The goal of The Temple 10-Q is to build a community around the business law work at Temple Law.  The editors, Professor Jonathan Lipson, Professor Andrea Monroe, and Professor Jonathan Broder hope The Temple 10-Q helps to energize Temple’s business law community by creating a forum through which they can educate and inform.  We hope you enjoy the most recent edition which can be found at this link.
