Delaware Valley Environmental Inn of Court – Deadline to Apply September 22nd

This year, Temple is able to nominate two new student members (2Ls, 2LEs, 3Ls, 3LEs, and 4LEs) to the Delaware Valley Environmental Inn of Court. The American Inns of Court is a nation-wide organization dedicated to increasing collegiality within the legal profession.  Local Chapters of practicing attorneys meet the last Wednesday of each month from 5:50 to 8 to learn from each other, socialize, and generally be collegial.  We are fortunate that in Philadelphia, there is an Inn of Court chapter specifically for environmental law practitioners.  Students are assigned to small groups that each develop a CLE presentation and to individual mentors.  This is a genuinely nice group of roughly 80 or so area environmental attorneys, representing a broad diversity of practice areas and perspectives.  There are big firm lawyers, small and medium firm lawyers, government lawyers from the federal, state and local level, administrative law judges, and public interest lawyers.  The Inn values diversity and inclusion which are essential to our Inn’s mission and is considered essential to the mission of the entire American Inns of Court, and thus particularly welcomes applications from diverse students.

To apply, please email Professor Amy Sinden at asinden@temple.edu.  Include a brief statement of interest as well as your resume.  The deadline to apply is Sunday, September 22nd.

Phillip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition

The Phillip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition is a competition that brings students from law schools across the country to compete with each other in a mock trial as if between nations at the International Court of Justice.  The Jessup Team will be responsible for researching and writing legal briefs for both sides in a dispute between two fictitious countries.  Students will then form two teams of two to argue a side before a panel of judges, the majority of whom are actual judges or attorneys involved in the practice of international law.  This will involve a significant time commitment over the course of the late fall and beginning of the spring semester.  Students may earn 2 credits for their Spring Semester.  If interested, please email Kyle Offenbecher at kyle.offenbecher@temple.edufor more details.

Mindful Mondays

Everyone can participate in a 20-minute guided mindfulness meditation practice.  Mindful meditation involves paying attention on purpose to the present moment without judgement.  No experience is necessary.  Join Professor deGuzman at noon in K5B every Monday.
