Upper Level Course Registration for Spring 2020 – General Registration Starts Monday, November 11th

As you know, Spring 2020 course registration is in 3 steps:

  • live-client experiential course registration – begins October 28
  • priority course registration – begins November 4
  • general registration – begins November 11

The registration schedule and PIN numbers needed for registration can be found here.  The spring 2020 course schedule can be found here.  Please note that students are automatically registered in the integrated programs (ITP and ITAP), FJC, Internal Clinics and year-long clinics and so you do not need to use a priority choice for these courses.  Additionally, you do not need to register on Banner for Practicum courses or Independent Guided Research Courses (registration for these courses is handled manually, you do not need to use a priority choice for these courses, and you can find instructions here and here).  If you are a Veteran, please note you get Veteran’s Preference.  To confirm you are listed in this program, please email Ms. Kelly Butts, Assistant Director of Academic Affairs, at kelly.butts@temple.edu.

Temple Law Asylum Project – Exhibit with the Tyler School of Art – November 11th

Buscando Refugio (Seeking Refuge) aims to disseminate information about conditions faced by asylum seekers from Central America, and is a joint project by Temple University and the Washington Office on Latin America to compile resources supporting these asylum claims. This program is a collaboration between Temple Law faculty member Jaya Ramji-Nogales, Linh H. Nguyen, Emily Alvarez and Bryan Satalino’s Senior Design Workshop class from the Tyler School of Art and Architecture. We look forward to seeing you on Monday, November 11th at 5 pm.

Stress Management Help Desk – November 13th

State Court Honors Internship Program – Application Open!

We are proud to offer the State Court Honors Internship Program (SCHIP). In this three (3) credit experiential program, second year day and third year evening/part-time students are offered an opportunity to work for a judge in the First Judicial District of the Court of Common Pleas of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Students are educated on the structure, function, administration, and diversity of issues presented in the state judiciary, and gain practical experience with the various divisions in the First Judicial District. Working with the judges and their full-time clerks, students draft orders, research issues, prepare bench memoranda, and observe judicial proceedings.  Further program information, including the application and the selection procedure, can be found here. Spring 2020 School Designed Practicum Courses

Please review the Spring 2020 School Designed Practicum Courses if you have not done so already! A Practicum combines an experiential learning project with supervision and evaluation by a member of the full time faculty. Fall Exam Schedule

The Fall 2019 examination schedule is now available here. This Fall, the last day of classes is Wednesday, December 4, 2019.  Exams will begin on Friday, December 6, 2019 and end on Thursday, December 19, 2019.  Please be aware that the exam period is very compressed and that, under our exam conflict policy, you may be required to take an exam every other day.

If you have a conflict please complete the form at this link and email it to Ms. Kathy Wilson (kilson@temple.edu) in Student Services (Barrack 103) by November 4, 2019. If you are an evening student requesting to take an exam on Saturday please fill out the form that’s located at this link.

Companion Animal Law Writing Contest

Students may write about one of two topics for this year’s Companion Animal Law Writing Contest: state legislature’s animal control and enforcement laws’ bond-for-care provision or fraudulent claims of emotional support and service animals.  The deadline for submission is November 30, 2019. American College of Consumer Financial Services 2020 Writing Competition

The American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers is pleased to announce its 2020 annual writing competition to recognize significant written contributions in the field of U.S. consumer financial services law.  Entries must have been written or published between November 15, 2019 and December 1, 2019.  The deadline for submission is December 1, 2019. The James W. Stoudt Memorial Scholarship of the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation

The James W. Stoudt Memorial Scholarship of the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation will provide three ($3,000) scholarships, two of which are specifically dedicated to the support of historically underrepresented minority law students of African-American, Hispanic-American or Native American Ancestry.  To be eligible, applicants must be or become law student members of the Pennsylvania Bar Association (which is free for law students choosing to become electronic members), demonstrate financial need and good academic standing, and submit an application that includes:  proof of residency; an unofficial copy of a current academic transcript; a maximum of two recommendations; and a 500-word essay that describes how the applicant plans to demonstrate their potential for making a contribution to society and the legal profession.  The deadline is December 3, 2019.

Mindful Mondays 

Everyone can participate in a 20-minute guided mindfulness meditation practice.  Mindful meditation involves paying attention on purpose to the present moment without judgement.  No experience is necessary.  Join Professor deGuzman at noon in K5B every Monday.

Louis Jackson Memorial National Student Writing Competition

This writing competition is co-sponsored by Jackson Lewis LLP and the Institute for Law and the Worrkplace at IIT College of Law.  Judges will consider papers on any topic relating to the law governing the workplace, such as employment law, labor law, employee benefits, or employment discrimination.  One top honors award of $3,000 and two $1,000 awards will be presented.  The submission deadline is  January 22, 2020. Trandafir International Business Writing Competition

Transnational Law & Contemporary Problems, in conjunction with the University of Iowa College of Law, conducts an annual world affairs student writing competition that is open to law students and to graduate students in all disciplines. Students are able to write on any contemporary business or economic concern with the award being publication as well as a $2500 cash prize. All essays must be received no later than February 1, 2020. Comments for the Law Faculty Review Committee

The Law Faculty Review Committee makes recommendations to the Faculty and the Dean regarding tenure, promotion, and long-term contracts for faculty members.  The Committee also evaluates the progress of faculty members toward promotion, tenure, and long-term contracts.

The Committee encourages members of the student body, the faculty, and the administration to express their views on the performance of individual faculty members under review.  Student views and comments on the teaching performance of the faculty members under review are especially useful and important to this process.  Although we read the regular student course evaluations for the faculty members under consideration, student comments and opinions sent directly to the Committee are welcome and appreciated.

Anyone wishing to express their views and comments on the faculty members under review should do so in writing addressed to Professor Richard Greenstein (Room 601), or by e-mail to richard.greenstein@temple.edu.
