2014 Kenneth Shear Civil Gideon
Legal Justice Essay Competition
and Scholarship Fund
Full and part time law students who have completed at least one year of study at one of the following six
institutions: Drexel University School of Law,
University of Pennsylvania Law School, Rutgers School of Law – Camden,
Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law, Villanova University School of Law, Widener
University School of Law (Delaware Campus).
Candidates must submit a law review quality submission on “Civil Gideon”.
~~FIRST PLACE AWARD~~
The author will receive a cash award of $1,500 and within six months of receiving the award will
provide, on a strictly volunteer basis, under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of the Bar
Foundation, 40 hours of service assisting the Philadelphia Bar Foundation in its activities with the
Philadelphia Bar Association’s Civil Gideon Task Force, the state-wide Access to Civil Justice Coalition
and/or future statewide Access to Civil Justice Commission, or with another project of the Philadelphia
Bar Foundation aimed at promoting equal access to justice.
